Thanks @TheClient, I did some deep googling as I couldn't sleep for a few hours stressing about the car.Found a video explaining the relation to the sensor 3 and the cooling jet system, and in that car with the same fault it turned out to be the camshaft.
To change the high level light on the estate (hatch is probably the same), all the plastic trim on the inside of the tailgate has to come off. First you remove the torx screw in the hole next to the pull down handle. Then you can lever the bottom trim panel off (I used a large flat screwdriver).
The EPC warning light came on for no apparent reason although I didn't get limp mode or any obvious change in the way the car drove. I finished my journey without any problem and when I re-started the car the light had gone. I've since done a 45 mile motorway run, everything seems completely normal and the light has stayed off.

Pulling out from a junction car just went dead, no power at all.. still running but very lumpy. Epc light on the dash which ive never seen on before while driving.. Obviously the logical answer is to get it scanned. At least you could rule out anything serious. If the cel begins to flash, you have a misfire and it would be a bad idea to drive it. You should still have power train warranty so the scan should be free at the dealer. In Canada and if you're under 100,000km.

Å koda Fabia. Skoda Fabia Mk III (2014-2021) EPC Warning Light On. Hi all. On the run up to the midlands today about 160miles into the journey, noticed the EPC warning light on. I was on the motorway just cruising along in 6th gear. Didn't notice any change in engine performance or anything bad happening so kept going.
