Ford Focus 1.8 tdci diesel - Smoke on startup 2004 Ford Focus 1.8t dci diesel. I have a problem when starting from cold with lots of blue smoke. It also runs roughly for a few minutes or until the blue smoke has gone. It then runs fine with little or no smoke. Starting from warm doesn't produce the smoke. Name: Alan. A turbo charged car running well in the colder weather should really feel much more lively off the mark, cold dense air is excellent for turbo engines, mine is great when the air is cold and dense. Feels like a different car when it's cold. Something does not sound right to me. Also, if there is a Throttle body relearn procedure, then Forscan will be very likely to have it. The throttle body on a diesel does not do the same job as on a petrol engine. Most of the time it can be wide open, the engine runs lean. Only the fuel needs to be controlled. My 1.8 has no throttle valve at all. Since replacing the chain is another very expensive job (around 500 eur) and I also had some pretty bad rust problems on the jackpoints and fenders I've had enough and just bought a mk 2.5 focus today which recently had the engine rebuilt (due to broken wet belt tensioner not the belt - previous owner said so) and both timing belts repalced and TheOneAndOnly. Having an issue with my S-Max recently where it could start and run no problem for a few days (or more) then intermitenly not start, even if left over night. It then may start after 2-5 goes of turning over. I've gone to two mechanics, full service, brand new battery, diagnosic computers show no codes at all. 2.0 tdci Mondeo engine, injectors at £200 each, then have to be coded in, pump £7-800 means potential write off and theres many on ebay with P251 code meaning scrapyard imminent. The white smoke will be unburnt diesel which could be down to faulty glow plugs but if it wasn't doing this before I'd be more likely to suspect that some part of the fuel system has a tiny leak and is allowing a small amount of air in. Injector Programming (TDCi Engines) This function is required by service centres when an Injector needs to be replaced, or there is a driveability problem. For 1.8 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi engines the each injector has a 16-digit calibration code stamped on the body. Posted December 21, 2009. Hi, Having a intermittant problem with a 1.4 TDCi (53 Plate 2004 model) when I turn the igition I hear the engine turn over about 3 times but then it stops (as if I have let go of the key but I haven't) I then have to turn the key back and attempt to re-start. Took about 7 attempts to get the engine to start this morning. P16k.
